Sometimes a design idea escapes me until I am actually in progress of putting it all together. This was one of them. I knew I needed to make a 50th birthday cake with a Vintage theme. I wanted old signs, something to represent the recipients love of cycling and basketball and make a mention of his dream to one day have a Harley Davidson.
Originally I thought I would make a fondant motorcycle and place it on the top of the cake but that proved to be a bit of a challenge.
So as I was making my vintage signs I decided to paint on a motorcycle as well as bike and basketball elements.
I was very pleased with how my "Harley" turned out since it was done free hand and I only had a picture to go by. I am slowly mastering the art of painting on fondant. This is quickly becoming my new favorite technique.
